The first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs brings together beautiful horses, vibrant silks, elegant hats, and beautiful weather. The Kentucky Derby, set for May 7th in Louisville, Kentucky is one of the nation’s oldest sporting events. The Kentucky Derby’s “Run for Roses” has been held every year since 1875. As part of a full day of racing, the Derby for three year old thoroughbreds is run on a mile and a quarter track. One of the jewels of the “Triple Crown,” the Derby showcases many traditions including a sing- along to “My Old Kentucky Home” before the the horses break from the starting gate. Mint juleps, synonymous with Derby celebrations are refreshing on a spring horse racing day. Spectators who attend the Derby are known to dress elegantly for the special day. The tradition of women wearing elaborate hats to the Derby dates back more than a century. This year’s Derby is one of the highlights of the spring racing season.

Whether you’re attending this year’s race, or enjoying the day at a Derby watching party, you can be dressed to impress. Add a little equestrian style to your outfit with one of Paul & Lydia's horse print accessories.  Stay cool and chic in the sunshine with a traditional Derby hat, ladylike fascinator and don’t forget to bring a pair of sophisticated sunglasses. P&L’s Vintage Racetrack Print Tote is a great addition to any spring look.
